| | - 27th Torino Film Festival.
13 - 21 November 2009, Turin.
On 13 - 21 November 2009 Turin will host the 27th Torino Film Festival with Gianni Amelio who succeeds Nanni Moretti as art director. The Festival is a cultural event of the utmost interest for the area and a leading happening in the scene of Italian cinema. Hence Intesa Sanpaolo has decided to renew its support as Main Sponsor of the event, consistently with its commitment to cooperate in improving the quality of cultural and social projects promoted by the community in which the bank operates. Traditionally the Torino Film Festival continues its voyage of discovery of contemporary movies along with their modes of expression and authors by scheduling over 220 films grouped into several sections (Torino 27 - Festa Mobile - Rapporto Confidenziale - Italiana.doc - Figli e amanti - Italiani corti - Spazio Torino - Onde). The Festival also offers two impressive retrospectives dedicated to the American film director Nicholas Ray Rebel Without a Cause and to the Japanese film director Nagisa Oshima's production A Story of the Cruelties of Youth. The section Figli e amanti (Sons and Lovers) dedicated to films out of competition deserves special mention. It will screen the works of six contemporary Italian film directors - Marco Bellocchio, Davide Ferrario, Matteo Garrone, Mario Martone, Paolo Sorrentino and Gianni Zanasi - who have been requested to say which movie from the past played a key role in their calling for movie-making. Gran Premio Torino is a new feature of the 27th Festival. From this year the award will be presented to movie-makers who have innovated film language by creating untried aesthetical models and by spreading the founding trends of contemporary cinema. The first edition of the prize will be awarded to Emir Kusturica for the creative spirit that pervades his movies and the original traits of his style, and to Francis Ford Coppola¿s film-producing company American Zoetrope that has significantly renewed the United States movie industry. In the framework of its partnership with the 27th Turin Film Festival, Intesa Sanpaolo will be the Presenting Partner at the opening evening on Friday, 13th November at Teatro Regio, when the international preview of the film Nowhere Boy by the Britsh film director Sam Taylor Wood will be screened. The movie centres on the youthful years of John Lennon in Liverpool in the 1950s. On Monday, 16th November the bank will promote and host the conference What about the central role of cinema? at its Congress Hall. The event will enlarge on whether the world of movies is still a cultural model that has the power to vitally influence our society, despite the deep crisis that is affecting both movies as a product and their current market.
